BIOGRAPHY
Nick Kanopoulos received the Electrical Engineering Diploma from the University of Patras, Hellas and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Duke University. In his 25 year professional career has been focused on Microelectronics where he held various Engineering, Management, and Professional positions with Allied Signal Research Triangle Institute, Mitsubishi, and Duke University. Nick founded Data Communications Technologies in 96 and he was the CEO of that company until it was acquired by Atmel Corporation in 99. Since then, he is the Director of the Multimedia and Communications Business Unit where he has P&L responsibilities for products develop by groups in the US, Hellas, and Sweden. The Atmel-Hellas group is the first Leading Edge Technology enterprise in Hellas that develops products sold in high volume worldwide. Nick’s scientific contributions to the field include over 120 publications in the form of books and articles in Journals and Conference proceedings, and participation in the program and organizing committees of numerous IEEE International Conferences and Workshops.

“DEVELOPING AND OPERATING A HIGH TECHNOLOGY ENTERPRISE IN HELLAS: A Real life experience”
This presentation discusses the experience of starting and operating an engineering group in Hellas that develops semiconductor products for the world markets. Atmel-Hellas, was started five and a half years ago using a corporate Hellenic Developmental Law. Atmel- Hellas today employs 135 professionals and develops competitive products that are sold in the world markets. This presentation highlights the experience of establishing and growing Atmel-Hellas as well as the challenges for a potential investor/entrepreneur when dealing with Government and the labor force in Hellas.
