In the remote villages of Tsalka, Georgia and in the Lori Marz region of Armenia,
the PHCI has made heroic accomplishments in restoring health and hope to thousands
of Hellenes and their neighbors. With funds from the United States Agency for
International Development (USAID),
the PHCI has renovated 12 village health posts that were unable to provide medical
care because they were unsafe and unsanitary. The following pictures highlight the conditions of these
health posts.
Before
After
By October 2004, the renovated and in some cases new construction of the health posts, began to provide medical care to village residents. In addition to the renovation, the PHCI has supplied these health posts with basic equipment and monthly medical supplies and medicines.
At the inauguration of these newly renovated centers, SAE President and PHCI Founder, Andrew A. Athens thanked USAID for enabling the PHCI to undertake this project of restoring basic medical care to so many Hellenes who had no source of health care in their villages. In two Armenian villages, the PHCI restored a fresh water supply by replacing broken pipelines.

The PHCI has also conducted extensive training seminars with local health care providers helping to increase their knowledge and skills in new treatment options and diagnostic capabilities.
Training seminars
Part of the training program included a community mobilization project, training volunteers in first aid, signs of heart attack and stroke, personal hygiene and dangers of smoking and alcohol abuse. Children from the local schools in the various villages were recruited to perform skits and small plays to increase their awareness of having good hygiene and proper nutrition.
