PUBLIC AFFAIRS INVOLVEMENT
A main thrust of Mr. Athens' work is the creation
of strong, friendly ties between the United States, Greece and Cyprus.
To accomplish that mission, he founded the United Hellenic American
Congress in 1974 and has been its National Chairman since then,
and co-founded the National Coordinated Effort of Hellenes (CEH)
with offices in Washington, DC. Through that office, an intensive
effort has been undertaken to make leaders in the US Government
and the Congress aware of the importance of the Hellenic tradition
in America and of the just rights of Hellenes in Cyprus and Greece
itself.
These gigantic ventures are the culmination of a long
history of public affairs work in Washington, DC and of philanthropy
in the Greek community and the Church.
