The Adopt-A-Church project is a World
SAE initiative which aims to preserve and restore Greek Orthodox
Churches and monuments worldwide. Particular emphasis is given to
areas in Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Africa, and Asia, where in
recent history Orthodoxy and Hellenism have suffered greatly due
to unfavorable socio-political conditions.
Initially targeted churches for such
assistance are: a church in Bulgaria, one on the Island of Imvros,
two in the Republic of Georgia, and one in a yet-to-be determined
African country.
The goal of Adopt-A-Church is not only to preserve
and restore the physical aspect of a church, but also to serve as
an encouraging factor to the suffering Hellenic communities around
the world to preserve the Hellenic heritage.
